There's a certain beauty in the mess that is the creative process. The messier it gets, the more likely you'll encounter something most unexpected and bizarre; you never know what our minds are capable of...and the idea of venturing into this unknown, imaginary, yet what-feels-to-be-so-real, terrain, is exciting, thrilling and 150% worth the time lived.

For photography, videography or anything content creative really...

BASED OUT OF VANCOUVER, BC, YOU’LL FIND THAT I’M AN ARTIST AT HEART AND PROGRESSIVELY BY PRACTICE.

Most leisure days, you'll likely find me at a local coffee shop, seated close to a window, and sipping on my café Americano. You'll also likely see me jotting down or drawing out ideas that cross my mind into my yellow-bind notebook; I like to capture the subtleties that life offers, mull it over, and offer back my take on the experience.

Bridging the gap between vision and reality is a challenge;  merging the two together is a significant feat. I am a big fan of chasing after ideas and respect entrepreneurs and all dream go-getters out there who strive to put their own puzzle pieces together and contribute to shaping whatever is the bigger picture.

PERHAPS THAT’S WHY I ENJOY ART.

I participate in art, not purely for others' viewing pleasure, but more so to give my mind's imagination the closure it needs.

IJHL x PHOTOGRAPHY

My primary medium is photography, with captures taken that are not purely for memory-sake or aesthetics, but more for the abstract sense of identity and putting a still pause on time that actively flows out of our control. My aim is to go beyond taking life as it is and to understand its story, seal its emotion and connect with it. The intention behind the snap is of utmost importance; in our generation where photography has become so accessible, we may lose sight of the depth that lies within the craft. There are layers beyond just good composition that can't go unnoticed, and one should learn to frame the mind accordingly. It truly boils down to the 'why'.

BUT WHO AM I ANYWAYS...

Well, one thing's for certain, cultural identity has never been certain. I'm only learning about what it means to stay put in one location for a lengthy period of time. I'm a sucker for anything chocolate and a horrendous person to rely on for lyrics. I can't quite salsa, but I can make a mean salsa. I'm a huge foodie and will devour anything and everything - a warning to those who underestimate my size. You text me to go grab an afternoon beer, I'll respond in less than 5 seconds. You text me to grab a Blenz, Belgian Dark Hot Chocolate...I'll probably have beat you to it, but I'll still be down for seconds. I've got my head up in the clouds and I let my mind run loose sometimes, until I catch me talking to myself and question my sanity. On other matters boiled simply down, I like following fashion, I enjoy both fiction and non-fiction books, the brain and human psychology fascinate me, and finally, I love sushi.

WHY  V A L O R Z A?

Expression underlies all forms of communication. Whether this is through speech, stance, music, or other art forms. As social beings, we can choose to project our  mental states and thought processes onto behaviours, in an attempt to communicate our identity and story, beliefs and interests.

In this effort to communicate who we are as individuals, however, there is a major conflict of interest between what follows and what strays away from an acceptable social trend. Innovative, creative and imaginative thoughts are all abstract processes that stray away from existing trends and ways of thinking. Expression of these novel ideas hold the risk of criticism by society and we may oftentimes choose to keep quiet against such pressures.

I truly believe that we all foster a creative innovator and story teller within us, but for us to be able to expose this inner genius to societal risk through conscious choice requires definite courage and a certain amount of power. This, and the fundamental need for respect across novel and original ideas, is what "VALORZA | In Expression" is all about.
